Lebanon VA Medical Center
Gastroenterology provides consultation and procedural services such as upper and lower endoscopy and capsule endoscopy for acute and chronic GI bleeding, assessment of occult blood in stool, and anemia pointing to iron deficiency and acute blood loss. Through endoscopy the Gastroenterologist is able to evaluate ulcer disease, polyps, tumors, vascular abnormalities, as well as inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhea, swallowing difficulties, heartburn, noncardiac chest pain, and abdominal pain. Other disease processes involving the pancreas and liver are also included in the evaluation by this specialty service. Once a diagnosis is made, and treatment initiated, the Gastroenterology service can follow or recommend treatment with or without endoscopic followup.
